Last night I had a dream. I want to write a cook book… The only issue is I don’t know how to cook. Also a problem because I will be living in an apartment next year… So my options are give up on the cook book and order Jimmy John’s every night OR learn to cook this summer. I’ve decided to learn to cook. It’s probably about time to do that. I am almost 20. This blog will be a way to document my amazing feats in the cooking world… Or you know when I learn how to boil water. All summer I’ll try my hand at cooking, hopefully take some classes and improve, and then once the semester comes around again I will begin my cookbook adventure. Wish me luck! Any advice anyone has for me please give it! I’d love to hear anything you have.
So, what do you plan to tackle first? Is there something that you like to eat that you’re like, “Man, I wish I knew how to make that”?
I’m thinking about starting off with burgers. They’re my favorite food and I feel like I can experiment a lot with what I put on my burger to make it interesting.
Pan fried, or grilled? The basics: Season the meat with salt and pepper–if you can get sea salt and freshly grind pepper, that will make it extra awesome–and mash it in there really good with your hands. Then roll into a ball, and make it into a patty. Don’t make it super thick, but do make it bigger diameter than you think you need because it’ll shrink. One thing to watch out for is overcooking them so that they’re too dry. Try to resist the urge to mash the juice out of it. Season with a little more salt & pepper in the pan. Also, buttering and grilling the cut side of the bun makes it even tastier.
Make sure you post pics and an update!
Thanks! I’ll be sure to try this out!
